Summertime in Britain wouldn’t be complete without the delicious bounty of fruits, vegetables, and herbs. Juicy strawberries, sweet cherries, and fragrant raspberries are perfect for enjoying fresh or in juices and desserts. Ripe courgettes, peas, and tender new potatoes are staples of the season’s summer harvest. Fresh herbs like basil, mint, and chives add delicious flavours to summer dishes. Not forgetting fruits from around the world, sending our senses into overdrive!

Giuseppe Arcimboldo, in the 15th Century, used seasonal fruit to build imaginative portraits.

Art inspiration;

🎨 Explore painting some juicy summer fruits, delicious veg, or fragrant herbs. Study them closely before you begin, and use bright, vibrant colours

🎨 Visit a local produce market or research online and sketch the local stalls where the summer produce is displayed

🎨 Take a local walk or visit your allotments or community gardens, sketch what you see growing, or use other media, maybe some memories, and make a collage of the images. The produce and any little potting sheds…

🎨 Maybe you have a summer recipe, using fresh summer ingredients. You need to add drawings to your recipe card, make this vibrant and appetising to readers

🎨 Think of the people who work on their gardens or in fields, maybe you’d like to draw them, their tools, or the machinery used in producing the summer crops

🎨 Try some painting in the style of Giuseppe Arcimboldo using summer fruit and vegetables to build up either your portrait or someone else's

I look forward to sharing time and seeing your ideas come together. It will be a great evening of creativity, and as always, we will support each other!

See you all soon 🙂 Wednesday evening, 7:30 pm UK time.
