The power of film certainly had an impact on our creatives this week. It's a fantastic medium that evokes many emotions and leaves memories, some good, some maybe a little more challenging in nature. All evoke imagination, and in that regard, we are the masters of our own. So, please buckle up, we are going on a journey through many genres of movies with art, some are favourites and others that are memorable with meaning...

Scott - 'Pulp Fiction', this drawing is from the dance contest showing actors John Travolta and Uma Thurman doing the twist to win the trophy. Sketched using marker pens. This is a great composition when you think about the movie, the characters and the scene, great interpretation!

Donna drew and coloured a fantastic artwork of the character Mary Poppins, seen here flying over the rooftops, using her faithful umbrella and carrying her huge cloth bag containing all her magic! Such a fantastic movie, great choice! This must have been a tricky decision for Donna to make, as I know she likes to watch films and go to the cinema too. Picture drawn with graphite pencil and coloured in with felt-tip pens.

Barbara - Chose to paint one of her favourite films, Mars Attacks. These are the Bubble gum-chewing Martian spies. Barbara explained that this is the only film she enjoyed that much, she watched it twice in one go saying it was quirky and funny. Also, she shared that she also enjoys films by David Lynch and Tim Burton. Watercolours were used.

Noor - Shared with us that among other movies, her favourites are Bollywood films. These drawings are based on characters played in romantic movies. One features the actress, related to Shah Rukh Khan, his daughter is Suhana Khan. The other film is called Catching a Train; it does have a happy ending, and most of the Bollywood films can be seen on Netflix, Noor was saying. The films make her feel happy. Art created using graphite and double-tipped fibre pens.

Phil - Ab Fab the Movie characters - this film was one of Phil's favourites because of the characters being full of fun and their costumes. A real festival on the page and all the aspects you'd expect with the Ab Fab movie, fantastic! Colourful markers were used to create this picture.

Sarah - Rabbit meeting - thinking of the film 'Watership Down'. This I remember from my youth, my eyes filled with tears and hope for their colony. The fact of the struggles and finding a forever home rings true today. Incredibly emotive and powerful lines drawn between humanity and nature. The film is based on the book by Richard Adams 1972. The song 'Bright Eyes' was released in the 1978 animation of Watership Down. Not a favourite film, but a memorable one! Rough outline sketch with graphite painted with watercolours.

Andy - chose to work on his film, 'Mrs Harris Goes to Paris'. The elements he captured with this work include the Eiffel Tower and some dresses. The colour washes used by Andy in the watercolour work really well in achieving the great blended colours in the background.

Mandy - 'Angry Rachel' from the film 'Blade Runner', one of Mandy's favourite films, who shared, she thinks it was a clever and classic film, being released ahead of its time. This character is a stern, no-nonsense one; Mandy said she was trying to make her drawing to reflect an air of nonchalance... Such a striking artwork with the cheekbones being defined in that way, and the eyes follow you around the room. What do you think? Graphite and felt-tip pens were used.
As you can see, this week produced many fantastic artworks from all our creatives. Do you have a favourite, or is there a film you identify with that evokes your emotions or a soundtrack to a movie that brings back memories?

Thank you, Scott. You're right, I think the storyline is incredibly powerful.
Love your water ship down image Sarah. I really enjoyed the book and the film
Excellent art works and theme everyone. Its really interesting to see that there are not two films the same, so it was a wonderful variety of artworks and also an insight into people's personalities in what they chose. A lovely interactive group you run Sarah :) xxx
