Illustration is a powerful form of visual communication that bridges imagination and reality, telling stories beyond words. It allows viewers to interpret clues and create their own narrative, reminding us that everyone lives their own unique ‘movie’ with no re-runs.

This shows the storyboard process of how an artist prepares their artwork for an illustration. A sequence of sketches, small details added, and the final result.

Art inspiration;

This week, before you begin any artwork, you may find it useful to sketch a storyboard quickly.

🎨 Recount a brief story, create a storyboard, one that you wish to share, think about the characters, choose your colours. Your reflection on this chapter, maybe?

🎨 How will you illustrate your story? Will you draw a single or a series of images?

🎨 Which style of illustration will you be using for this drawing, fine art, digital, anime, or fun comic? Which inspires you? Who are the characters in your story? Have you reimagined them?

🎨 This is for everyone. If you cannot draw, you can cut out characters from magazines as well as items of furniture, scenery, and objects, then stick them onto a piece of paper to create your story!

🎨 You may wish to create a simple illustrated life journal to tell your story. Share something you have enjoyed, it could be a feeling or seeing a friend.

🎨 You may wish to recreate an artwork from your favourite illustrator, character, book, or storyline. Let us know the memory you have from this.

There are several ways this could go! I look forward to sharing time and seeing your ideas come together. It will be a great evening of creativity, and as always, we will support each other!

See you all soon 🙂 Wednesday evening, 7:30 pm UK time
