🎨 My Voice Matters (MH)
Every Creative Voice Counts!
We all have something worth expressing, whether it's a feeling, a message, an imaginative idea or simply something we enjoy. Sometimes words aren't quite enough, but art gives us another way to communicate, using colours, shapes and images to reveal a little of who we are.
This week's art theme, My Voice Matters, takes inspiration from World Mental Health Day and its 2026 message, “Lived Experiences Heard: Real Voices, Real Change”. It's a reminder of how important it is for everyone to feel seen, heard and valued, whatever their experiences or abilities.
But having a voice isn't always about speaking up or sharing something deeply personal. It can be about celebrating what makes us unique, expressing our interests, exploring our imagination or simply creating something that makes us happy.
Perhaps an artwork says, "See me! I'm here, and I matter." Or maybe it's saying, "Come and explore my world!" It might share a hope for the future, celebrate a friendship or invite someone to see things differently.
And sometimes, a cheerful splash of colour says everything we need it to!

Expressing Ourselves Through Art
Artists have always found ways to communicate beyond words, and their work reminds us that there are countless ways to express ourselves.
Ukrainian artist and photographer Elena Mozhvilo captures colourful, playful characters with wonderfully expressive faces. Their exaggerated features show how much personality and emotion can be communicated through simple shapes, colours and images.
American artist Henry Lyman Sayen (1875–1918) explored a different approach, using bold colours, abstract shapes and imaginative compositions. His painting Abstract Landscape (1915–1916) shows how an artist can express their impression of a place without painting every detail realistically.

These two examples couldn't be more different, yet both demonstrate how art can communicate something without needing words.
And that's what makes creativity so interesting. A simple drawing, a colourful pattern, a photograph or an imaginative character can all tell us something about the person behind it.
What Might Your Artwork Say?
For this week's creative adventure, we're inviting everyone to explore their own voice through art.
There's no need to create something complicated, share personal experiences or have a powerful message. Your artwork can be meaningful, playful, thoughtful, colourful or simply something you enjoy making.
Here are a few ideas to inspire you!
🎨 Colours That Speak – Use your favourite colours, shapes and patterns to express yourself.
🎨 This Is Me! – Share a little of who you are through a portrait, favourite things or something that makes you unique.
🎨 My Imagination – Draw a magical place, imaginary creature, dream or adventure.
🎨 My Message Matters! – Make a picture about something important to you, such as kindness, friendship, fairness or something you'd like to change.
🎨 Hopes and Dreams – Show something you're hoping for, searching for or would love to see happen.
🎨 Anything Goes! – Paint, draw or create whatever you like. Let your artwork speak for you!
Every Creative Voice Matters
One of the wonderful things about art is that we can all approach the same idea differently. What inspires one person might be completely different from what inspires another, and that's something worth celebrating.
You don't have to be an experienced artist or produce something perfect. Sometimes the simplest creations can make someone smile, spark their imagination or help them see the world through someone else's eyes.

So, whether you choose to express a feeling, share a message, explore an imaginary world or simply enjoy being creative, let your artwork speak for you.
If your artwork could speak, what might it say?
Every creative voice deserves to be seen, heard and valued. We look forward to discovering where your imagination takes you!
