This week we have bought the outdoors in, so you can enjoy!

The beauty of leaves, their intricacies, colours, and shapes in nature, when combined with our creatives who add their own twists and interpretations to them, has given a fantastic array of artwork for us this week. Have a first look and then take a second. Do you see anything different? There are layers to every piece.

Completed Leaf art or Patchwork Patterns by Phil

Phil - a selection of patterns and colours. Phil used the Toon me app to create his artwork this week. He captures a lot of fun, colour and imagination with this. However, as a group, we know his wardrobe is just as colourful and fun too!

Completed Leaf art or Patchwork Patterns by Barbara

Barbara - enjoyed creating this, a first-time leaf printing and getting messy, as you can see, the results are fabulous! Her materials were collected from near Chorlton Meadows. She said 'had fun and found it relaxing', even though it was out of her comfort zone! She had to make sure her 4 legged feline friend was not in the area, so that was an added challenge too!

Barbara used some metallic and other acrylic paints for this to get the veins and outlines of the leaf impressions.

Completed Leaf art or Patchwork Patterns by Sarah

Sarah - 'Leaves' - foraged and created a pattern, bringing them back to life once again, except as a tree. Sycamore and ash growing together. I took a step back and saw a gold heart in the middle of the leaf pattern. I am a lover of nature, perhaps the forest is calling me...

Created using inks for the background and Acrylic paints for the trunk, as well as leaf and stem printing.

Completed Leaf art or Patchwork Patterns by Carolina artworks

Carolina - produced 4 pieces of artwork during our session. All very different. She employed various techniques and her knowledge to inspire each one with the leaves she had to hand. Beautiful use of colours as well.

In the first set of artwork, Carolina used soft pastels, placing leaves under her paper and rubbing over them to pick up the indentations. Then on the second, she used watercolours, adding plenty of water to disperse the pigment around the leaf on the paper. On the third, Carolina used watercolour to print her leaf and drew with graphite to gain the beautiful flowing shapes. The fourth shows the actual leaves she used, woven together.

A great deal of foraging and fun was had with this topic, as you can see. It sparked imaginations and led some of our creatives to experiment in new areas. This adventure opens up the way to mixing media for other art projects, perhaps, and adds to thinking about how to incorporate the outdoors into other areas of life.

I look forward to hearing how you enjoy the gallery this time. Please leave a comment. If you would like to come along to the next art session, the group runs on Wednesday 7:30pm, you are welcome to join, it's a really relaxing session. There's a different topic each week.
