This was a great week; the art group had an interesting discussion and a great deal of nostalgia, especially with some of the competitors of the major sporting events associated with moments in time. We also spoke about people involved in the music industry and particular pop idols, as well as people in history, involved in activism and raising awareness. It was fantastic listening to others while drawing. Not everyone completed their artwork. Here are the pieces that I have received so far for this topic..

Background of 4 interlocking hands of different coloured skin tone of brown through to white. Centrally, the artwork is a front facing portrait of a lady with skin tone that is light brown, dark brown eyes, black short hair, light pink/lilac full lips, smiling, gold hoop earring, small wearing a lilac double breasted jacket
Completed Artwork for Black History Month 2025 by Barbara

Barbara - Painted in watercolour the portrait of 'Claudia Jones'. Barbara told us about this amazing lady and also wrote her bio. Claudia Jones organised the first Caribbean carnival in London in 1959, which is considered the precursor to the Notting Hill carnival. She was a black activist and also had some chronic health conditions, so she was representative of the disabled community, too. This lady is stunning and has given a great deal to the community.

Noor - explained that she used the colours of red, black, green, and gold in her artwork to add power to her drawing and recognise and celebrate the topic this week. She used Sharpie pens as they have strong pigments.

Donna - an inspirational piece of artwork, celebrating and showing respect for others. with the words she chose to include. Fantastic symbology and use of colours.

As I explained, other members of the art group worked on portraits of people associated with Black History Month. Once I receive those, I can bring them to you in an edition with perhaps other finished artworks from our art group.
