This year’s theme is ‘Pride’, celebrating cultural roots and connections, and ‘Power’, unity as a source of strength. Black heritage is seen in music, literature, cuisine, fashion, hairstyles, and art, which continue to influence global culture despite historic challenges.
We honour pioneers such as Mary Seacole, who provided medical care during the Crimean War; Martin Luther King Jr, whose activism shaped the civil rights movement; and Katherine Johnson, the NASA mathematician whose calculations powered spaceflight, Dame Maggie Aderin-Pocock PhD, alongside dyslexia and discouragement, she developed equipment for the James Webb telescope to look into deep space, among other projects. In sport, icons like Serena Williams and Marcus Rashford demonstrate excellence while advocating for equality. Writers such as Chinua Achebe and Maya Angelou gave powerful voices to identity and resilience. The colour red, black, green, and gold, symbolise strength, unity, and optimism. Reflect, recognise, and celebrate the rich heritage and inspired future generations in Black History Month.

Art inspiration;
🎨Base some artwork on a pioneer or a historical figure who founded and led change for the black community worldwide.
🎨 Use the colours red, green, black and gold to paint a portrait or a member of the black community you admire for their achievements
🎨 Sketch out some of the clothing, equipment, tools or medals of your pioneer or icon to represent them
🎨 Use pop art, bright colour blocks or graffiti style. You could make a collage of this?
🎨 Perhaps look into black African heritage/culture and explore patterns, foods, clothing or hairstyles, these would make fabulous artwork

I look forward to sharing time and seeing your ideas come together. It will be a great evening of creativity! See you all soon, a chilled time on Wednesday evening, 7:30 pm UK time. Please join us on link-tree select All4Art https://linktr.ee/all4inclusion
