As Stress Awareness Month comes to a close, take a moment to reflect on how far you’ve come.
Managing stress doesn’t require an overnight lifestyle overhaul—it’s about finding your balance. Recognise the signs: physical tension, racing thoughts, or that feeling of having a “busy brain.” Then give yourself permission to reset with simple tools like box breathing, positive reframing, or taking a mindful pause.

Art can be a powerful form of stress relief, too. Mark-making encourages freedom, flow, and self-expression—there’s no right or wrong way to create. Just movement, emotion, and letting your mind slow down through each brushstroke.
For many people living with disabilities, this abstract approach can feel especially accessible, removing the pressure of traditional techniques and requiring no specific equipment or sustained energy.
Inspired by artists like Vincent van Gogh and Vince Low, mark-making reminds us that every line, scribble, and stroke can tell a story.
This week, be gentle with yourself. Release the pressure, embrace the process, and let your marks reflect your journey.

Art Inspiration for this week;
🎨 The continuous line or scribble – on a piece of paper, draw a person or animal using a pencil or charcoal without lifting your tool from the page. A flow state, if you wobble, it becomes part of the picture, and that’s ok.
🎨 Object stamping – use marks made by everyday objects to create your picture. For example, dip a fork, leaf, or crumpled paper into paint, tea or coffee to see the gentle mark they leave.
🎨 Box breathing markers – use the rhythm of breath to guide the hand. Use a thick marker or crayon. Inhale for one side, hold for the next, exhale for the third, and hold for the last. Repeat this, layering squares over each other in different colours. An abstract rhythmic meditative picture, without pressure.
🎨 Tactile inner-stand collage – use scraps of paper, magazine or newspaper to match an emotion. Use fingers to tear paper into shapes. Arrange them based on how they feel in the moment—sharp edges for stress, rounded, torn edges for calm. There’s no wrong paper placement.
🎨 Paint and reflect on your day. Use paint to create a canvas of your mind, work with your brush to channel shapes onto your paper, attribute colour to convey your emotions with sweeps, scratches and splatters.
These are suggestions, remember to go with your own flow and make your own marks, wherever they lead you. They could be gentle or erratic. It has to be your own work, expressing your emotions.
It will be a great evening of creativity! See you all soon 🙂 Wednesday evening, 7:30 pm UK time. Please join us on link-tree select All4Art https://linktr.ee/all4inclusion
