This week I bring to you a bumper blog that encapsulates a fabulous gallery of work from our creatives, combining 'Places We Love' together with 'Life in Summer'! I hope you have set aside some time to enjoy these fantastic, inspirational pieces. Let us know your thoughts, and please tell us about your favourite places to spend time in the summer too.
🌍Places We Love
Travelling all over the world, back in time and also in imagination, our creatives have brought some amazing artworks...
Donna – decided her favourite place was in the countryside, among all the green trees and by the river. She is inside the cottage with her mum; notice the smoke spiralling up the chimney? Donna and her mum say they are cooking burgers for their tea!
So many fantastic details in this drawing: the bulrushes by the river, the fish and the little bridge. I love this, Donna. A perfect location to unwind.

Barbara - A real trip down memory lane! Barbara chose The Ritz in Manchester, where she remembers going to see Rage Against the Machine when she was younger and having an absolutely amazing time. She still remembers the music, the atmosphere and the feeling of being completely in the moment.
Barbara isn't sure whether the venue is still there, but the memories certainly are. It's a place locked in time for her and somewhere she loved in that moment. A fantastic interpretation of ‘Places We Love’, Barbara!

Noor – Beautiful colours! This time, Noor told us she was using new paints and stencils her mum had bought her; they look so pretty. She used them in this picture and also painted a beach and sea with a pink sky.

Andy – A great compilation of photos from your album! Andy tells us they start with Puerto del Carmen in Lanzarote, followed by the Amsterdam canal houses, the view from his hotel room in Liverpool, Charles Bridge in Prague and, finally, the Christmas markets in Colmar. The photos span his last 12 years of travel and show some of the different places he's visited and particularly enjoyed.

Andy’s personal photographs were used to create a digital collage.
Phil – A colourful collection of happy places, memories and experiences! Phil brought together photos of days out, holidays, meals, time with others and plenty of fun along the way. There are familiar favourites, including trips to Wetherspoons and a café, alongside something that hasn't happened just yet! Phil told me he has always wanted to swim with dolphins in America, so he used AI to imagine himself having that experience.
A fun and imaginative take on ‘Places We Love’, mixing favourite memories with somewhere Phil would love to visit in the future.

☀️Life In Summer
Flowers, butterflies, holidays, sunshine and summer memories – our creatives have captured what Life in Summer means to them in this colourful gallery...
Noor – A beautiful butterfly, Noor! And set at the beach too – two fantastic summery scenes captured in one painting. What a lovely idea!

Noor – A stunning rose just about to bloom; this is gorgeous! I love the rich colour of the petals, Noor, and how you told us this is one of your favourite flowers. I can almost catch the scent of it from here!

Vicky - Wow, these are awesome sketches of ‘Life in Summer’, Vicky! Love these – a very busy summer with moments of chill time too.
Vicky explained that her first sketch is a swimming pool, with a closed school beside it for the summer holidays. In the middle is the partial solar eclipse of 12 August 2026, showing the sun being covered by the moon. At the bottom is a fantastic tub of ice cream with a flake (YUMMY!), beside a beautiful beach and the sea. Then, at the top of the next page, we're going on a summer holiday with a plane taking off!

Matthew – I love this drawing! Matthew was extremely excited about the partial solar eclipse on 12 August 2026 – so excited, in fact, that there was no focusing on anything else about summer!
He was really interested in hearing about everyone’s experiences of the eclipse from different areas of the country, so there could only be one choice for his artwork this week.
Black pen was used.
Andy - Gorgeous bright colours, Andy! I love the patterns on your butterfly and how it takes centre stage.
The sunflower is very pretty and one of my favourites in summertime. With a flower, bee and bird joining the butterfly, you've captured lots of the colourful nature we see around us during summer. A great picture for ‘Life in Summer’!

Phil – Lots of summer fun and happy moments captured here, Phil! From days by the pool and at the beach to holidays, entertainment and spending time with others, there’s plenty going on in this colourful collection.
Phil has also included a dream for the future. He told us he would love to have a holiday in America and swim with a dolphin one day, so he used AI to imagine himself having that experience.

Sarah – My painting brings together both themes: Life in Summer and Places We Love.
It was inspired by memories of hot summer days growing up and visiting boating lakes. I loved sitting beneath the willow trees, watching their long branches swaying in the breeze and the boats moving across the lake.
Growing up in a busy house, these moments gave me a sense of peace and precious time to sit quietly with my own thoughts. There was always wildlife to watch too, especially the beautiful dragonflies dancing around the water.
It isn't one particular lake I've painted, but the memories and feelings of those peaceful summer places, and the sense of calm I found beside the water.
Acrylic paint, with water added for flow, was used to create this Impressionist-inspired painting.
Donna – A lovely chilled summer scene, enjoying a picnic in the park beneath a big shady tree. I love the little picnic table with all the food set out and the picnic basket underneath. Donna is sharing the picnic with her friend — a lovely way to spend a summer’s day!

What I love about these two themes is that a special place or a moment in summer doesn't have to be somewhere extraordinary. It can be a memory held onto for years, somewhere that makes us happy, the nature around us, time spent with others or even somewhere we dream of experiencing one day. It's in the sights, sounds, smells, tastes and feel of a place, and in those special moments of summertime filled with vibrancy, but also calm.
