Can you believe it's September, the ninth month of 2026 already? Where has this year gone! 🍂

With the seasons changing once again, this week's theme gave our artists plenty to think about. What I love about Autumn Changes is how differently we all notice the world around us. Something that catches one person's eye may be completely different from what inspires someone else, and that really comes through in this week's gallery.

Please take your time to look closely at each artwork, enjoy the details and discover what Autumn Changes meant to each of our artists. 🎨

Black ink drawing of a single leaf with a long stem and veins, centred on lined paper against a cream background with green, yellow and brown autumn leaves and All4Art logos.
Leaf, Details and Dancing on the Breeze

Matthew - This is fantastic! Matthew chose to draw a leaf being blown from a tree as the autumn winds begin to pick up. Looking closely, you can see the finer details he has added, including the stem and veins. He's really thought about his drawing and the story behind it — a lovely observation of the changing season. 🍂

Colourful painting of an autumn tree with a blue-grey trunk, orange canopy and blue, purple and orange leaves, with an orange sun peeking from behind the canopy, centred against a cream background with green, yellow and brown autumn leaves and All4Art logos.
Change: Tree Losing Its First Leaves in Autumn #1

Colourful painting of a robin with a bright orange-red chest, pink wings and tail, and its beak open as if singing, centred against a cream background with green, yellow and brown autumn leaves and All4Art logos.
Robin in Full Song #2

Noor - Painting #1: I love the different colour palette you've used, Noor. The purple and blue falling leaves have great shapes, and you can almost see the gust of wind that's blown them from the tree! I can also spot the sun peeking out from behind the canopy on this blustery autumn day. Brilliant painting! 🎨🍂

Painting #2: Wow, Noor, this is awesome! Noor decided she would like to paint a bird and, after we chatted, chose a robin, whose song we can hear again more often as autumn begins. I love your painting of this little robin with its beak open, singing away! It has a lovely puffed-out red-orange chest and beautiful tail feathers. I can almost hear it, Noor! 🎶

Watercolour paints were used for both these artworks.

Lone birch tree beside a pale blue lake and mountains, with green leaves beginning to turn yellow and fall, birds flying in the distance and a rocky shore, against a cream background with green, yellow and brown autumn leaves and All4Art logos.
'The Lone Tree of Llyn Padarn'

Sarah - I visited Llyn Padarn in Llanberis during a short holiday in 2022 and photographed the famous Lone Tree, a solitary birch growing at the water's edge. It was so serenely beautiful, surrounded by the lake and mountains.

I used my own photograph as the inspiration. I kept the changes subtle, with the birch still holding onto much of its green foliage while the first leaves are turning yellow and beginning to fall. A few have landed amongst the rocks and on the water, while birds fly away in the distance.

Change comes every year. Nothing in nature is meant to remain exactly the same as one season gradually gives way to the next. 🍂

It was lovely to revisit this special place through my painting. Maybe one day I'll get to visit again. 💛

Watercolours were used for this artwork.

Three delicate drawings: swallows gathering on a wire across the top, a tall bramble stem with blackberries and leaves on the right, and a second blackberry-laden bramble along the bottom, arranged on a cream autumn-leaf background with All4Art logos.
Fruit and Flight in Early Autumn

Myra - On a rare evening off, it was great that Myra felt inspired by our art theme this week to join us and draw. 🍂 Her bramble drawings are beautiful, with elegant linework showing plump, juicy blackberries growing amongst barbed stems and leaves. She's captured how brambles seem to grow at all sorts of angles, quite carefree without any gardening maintenance, while producing these wonderful berries ready to feast on when they're sweet and ripe in early autumn. I wonder if these are growing in a hedgerow near Myra, ready for a spot of foraging?

Her other drawing captures another early autumn sight — swallows lining up on telephone wires in Cornwall, getting ready to migrate. It's simple, yet captures the scene perfectly! I really love the delicate linework and the little bird flying in to join the others. I could imagine this being used as a beautiful header or footer on notepaper. I love it as a design! 🍂

Black ink was used to create these artworks.

Detailed autumn scene with a large orange house in the centre, a child with a purple umbrella on the left and a tree shedding orange-brown leaves on the right, beneath rain, storm clouds, lightning and a rainbow, on a cream autumn-leaf background with All4Art logos.
Splosh in the Rain and Chasing Rainbows - Autumn Weather Changes

Donna - Wow, there is so much going on in this Autumn Changes artwork! We were all impressed by how much detail there is, Donna, and with so many different areas to colour, this must have been quite a challenge. I love the dark clouds, rain and lightning, the leaves blowing from the tree and that wonderful rainbow bringing colour across the sky. 🌈 And that house is enormous! I said it looks big enough for all of us to live there — thank you for inviting us all! 🏠

Great work, Donna! 🎨

Felt-tip pens were used to colour this artwork.

Split scene centred around a large tree: a moonlit night with bare branches, an owl and mountains on the left, and a leafy green tree, birds, hammock and flowers at sunset on the right, reflected in water below, on a cream autumn-leaf background with All4Art logos.
Changes of Seasons, Time and Animals

Christine - This is a lovely choice of colouring by Christine. I love this tree; the colours are great, showing the transition between seasons and the cycles of night and day as the nights begin to get longer, while also suggesting changes in animal activity. It was also a great achievement to post your first artwork directly into the All4Art group. Great job, Christine — the first of many... 😊

A digital colouring app was used to create this artwork.

Child in colourful yellow, red and blue wet-weather clothes and red wellies, crouching to reach for autumn leaves floating in a puddle. The child and leaves are reflected in the water, surrounded by green grass, mud and pebbles, on a cream autumn-leaf background with All4Art logos.
Child's Play: Leaves and Puddles

Barbara - This week, Barbara explained that she enjoyed painting a toddler playing and splashing in a large puddle, chasing autumn leaves around in the water. Her image was based on a reference photograph by @andretaissin, free to use on Unsplash.

There are lots of early autumn changes captured here; the sky looks quite bright after a heavy shower, and I love this concept, B! 🍂 The colourful wet-weather gear really pops, while the puddle and floating leaves capture that wonderful childhood excitement of splashing in puddles again. After a long, hot summer, autumn brings a whole new adventure — puddles to splash in and fallen leaves to chase and catch! The reflections in the water, especially those bright red wellies, are exquisite. Brilliant work!

Watercolour paint and a white Posca pen were used for this artwork.

Man in colourful clothes and a green jacket kicking through a pile of brown and orange autumn leaves on a woodland path, sending leaves flying into the air, on a cream autumn-leaf background with All4Art logos.
Kicking Up the Leaves #1
Colourful comic strip showing Phil working at the Co-op, serving hot drinks, having a shop-floor disco and meeting a celebrity, surrounded by autumn leaves, on a cream autumn-leaf background with All4Art logos.
Warm Drinks in the Autumn #2
Two men standing on a seafront promenade scattered with autumn leaves, with orange and red trees behind them beneath a cloudy sky, on a cream autumn-leaf background with All4Art logos.
Autumn Changes at the Coast #3
Colourful comic strip showing Phil and his 'gig buddy' enjoying an autumn trip to Colwyn Bay, with scenes on the beach and pier, eating ice cream and attending a concert, on a cream autumn-leaf background with All4Art logos.
Fun Out and About in Colwyn Bay in Autumn #4

Phil - So cool! I love how Phil brought the changing season into his everyday life — from serving steaming hot drinks at the Co-op to kicking through piles of leaves and heading out and about in Colwyn Bay. His comic-style adventures are great fun and packed with personality, while the photo-style creations bring something different too. Colwyn Bay is definitely starting to look a little cooler, but Phil looks like he's enjoying the start of autumn a great deal! 😄🍂

These artworks were created digitally using Google Gemini and ChatGPT.

September has certainly brought some changes with it! Changes in the weather and season have been noticed in so many different ways and reflected through our artists' work. It's been great to see everyone finding inspiration through change, the seasons, nature and weather, while bringing something completely individual to the gallery. 🍂

If you'd like to join one of our art sessions, you'd be very welcome! We explore a different topic every week and meet online every Wednesday at 7:30 pm (UK time).
