A compelling week to be working on topics of acceptance, respect and inclusion, as it coincided with the United Nations International Day of Persons with Disabilities and Disability History Month. Our creatives took the challenge on and made some incredible artworks after much thought and discussion within our group, an emotive evening. Please take time to browse the gallery this week. There are several varying styles, interpretations and also our some of our creatives produced pictures that were works in progress, so haven't been included in this blog article; however, they are nonetheless noteworthy and looking forward to them being finished.

Mainly green background - Picture centrally on a pale coloured background with multiple types of boots, shoes, sandals, slippers, orthopaedic shoes and a walking blade. Various colours, sizes, shapes, some old, some new.
Artwork by Sarah for Accept and Respect - Disability Inclusion

Sarah - 'Walk a day in our shoes' - Accept & Respect Disability Inclusion, a different angle of taking a step away and considering a stance from whichever 'shoes' someone else wears, metaphorically speaking, they may not have shoes depending on their circumstances, limb differences and life challenges. Original concept, created using graphite and watercolour paints.

Mainly green background - Picture white background, image of the world drown centrally with light blue ocean indicated and a wheelchair disability symbol located in the middle of the globe. 2 hands are holding top and bottom of the world
Artwork by Donna for Accept and Respect - Disability Inclusion

Donna - A striking picture of the world showing acceptance of disabled people, drawn and coloured by Donna, with fantastic symbology. Created using graphite and coloured pens.

Mainly green background - Picture centrally with a white background, outline drawing of a lady sat in a powered wheelchair accessing a path. Muted coloured pavement yellow and red. blue and green outline
Artwork by Noor for Accept and Respect - Disability Inclusion

Noor - A fantastic first drawing of a powered wheelchair, great energy in this as it's a tricky one to draw, always looking like you've achieved with a smile on your face, love your enthusiasm. Coloured pencils were used to create this.

Mainly green background - Picture central on a white background, an ear lobe with a hearing aid, dark blue ear mould in the ear, wired ear hook over the ear lobe and the computer processor resting behind the ear. Brown hair brushed back
Artwork by Mandy for Accept and Respect - Disability Inclusion

Mandy - Awesomely detailed work representing the difference hearing aids have made to persons who have hearing impairments by adding sounds to their world of silence. This is a fantastic work in graphite and coloured pencils.

Mainly green background - Picture is centrally placed on a mainly light blue background, 4 large yellow sunflowers painted with brown centres and 4 different disability symbols in their centres
Artwork by Andy for Accept and Respect - Disability Inclusion

Andy - This is an excellent poster that combines the well-known hidden disability sunflower logo with some of the symbols that are used to show disabilities that are hidden. Interestingly, Andy said that his artwork was inspired by a recent visit to an airport while he was travelling. Created using watercolour paints and soft pastels.

Mainly green background - Picture located centrally, a colourful cartoon strip comic featuring a character and his support team
Artwork by Phil for Accept and Respect - Disability Inclusion

Phil - A huge story behind this, and a look into the life behind how a support team goes a long way into supporting someone in the community, the impact they have and how care looks very different. A great piece of digital artwork created with the Pawmics app by Phil.

So much energy and thought went into these works; others in our art group were also working on their pieces, to be completed, watch this space... please share a comment and a like, it's always good to know your thoughts.

If you're free, join us later. There will be a different topic; the link tree is below if you would like to come along. Wednesdays 7:30pm UK time
