Life's Emblem
Stunning pieces of work that took a great deal of thought and imagination from our artists when they created their own shields, designing and painting their emblems on their coats of arms. A challenging and mighty feat, but one that has produced something memorable for them and a great storytelling piece for generations to come, I'm sure you'll agree. Take a look at the colourful gallery. Each shield is divided into four quarters; some have banners or scrolls with writing on, of words with great meaning to our artists, others use symbols to express an aspect of themselves and their life.

Barbara - A stunning shield, I love the attention to detail paid to each quarter, and each has a really clear interpretation! The colours are bold and bright, fabulous.
Barbara explains her shield is divided into 4 quarters. 'My first Quarter shows a Hammer and sickle to represent that I am a communist and Trotskyist. This symbol is surrounded by 4 peace doves in the corners of the quarter, carrying olive branches in their mouths. In the second quarter, there's a red and white striped section, which represents both Liverpool and Manchester, which are my previous and current homes. The bottom left quarter focuses on my hobbies, an artist's palette. The final quarter is about my future. I have drawn a bunch of keys with a house motif keyring - showing my hope to get a permanent, secure home. A watercolour painting

Andy - bold and colourful quarter sections. Specifically, the paintbrush, top right, black background, refers to Andy's art hobby, and the bottom right, green background, with the purple aeroplane, refers to him hoping to travel more in the future. Clear symbols of representation, like this for a shield, great ideas. Coloured in with pens.

Donna - beautiful artwork with a lot of meaning, as you can see, illustrating her life, what brings her joy and means the most to her and her ultimate goal, to live in a safe place. She is a 'strong' woman. This is fabulous. Felt-tip pens were used.

Parveen - a beautiful shield that clearly shows Parveen's roots, what matters to her, her life and hard work, her personality, and her pursuit of her hobbies and dreams. I love her motto, 'Strength in Unity'; truly very powerful. Created using watercolour pencils and ink.
A huge amount of work went into these coats of arms and could be used for generations to come. They look phenomenal. It's not until you take a moment and think about what's important to you and your life and where you are headed that you gain perspective. A great way to look closely at your life and illustrate this, and to move towards your goals or create them and start from there.

Wild & Tame!
Taking a walk on the wild side we headed into the animal kingdom. As you may know, this covers all creatures from the tiny to the huge, the loveable cute ones to those that maybe are feared or potentially make us scream or squirm. There were some brilliant artworks, nothing too scary so take a look through them for yourselves.

Alison - Fantastic colouring in with all the different birds having their plumage given different colours. I love this and the patterns on the tree bark. Alison has attended our art group for a long time, this is one of the colouring books she works from and really enjoys it, using pencils and pens. Birds are one of her favourite animals (together with butterflies). Thank you for sharing with us Alison. It's always good to speak with you in the art group (:
Coloured in using pen.

Barbara - And the cat we all know, 'Mango'! This is a gorgeous painting and the background offsets her black fur beautifully, she looks like she's having a sweet snooze, wondering what sort of mischief she can get herself into next, we dread to think, it could be anything... She has her eyes slightly open, so clearly she is ready to pounce! Loving cat queen vibes you've captured in your painting. Mango slumbers, disturb at your own risk! Watercolour paints were used.

Noor - Decided to draw animals from 2 different groups, birds and insects, both incredibly colourful! Her butterfly is a vibrant yellow and looks beautiful and reminded me of meadows and warm sunny days. Noor described the bird as a humming bird in flight, hovering over a flower, drinking nectar. Again a vibrant colour. Your use of colour is brilliant Noor, we always look forward to your artwork. Watercolour pencils were used.

Donna - fab choices of animals, one fish and one mammal! Awesome, I have had the privilege of looking after both in the past. We love 'Toothless', he has such a cool name for a start! Donna was telling us about his background and how she came to look after him, he has now found his forever home and is loving it by the looks of things. A very handsome portrait of him in his tank, love this artwork. 'Gus' and 'Chucky' are characters in their own right and we remember hearing of their adventures when Donna and Val had to go look after them when their owners were away. A lot of fun, a mischievous pair, wouldn't expect anything less from moggies. Lovely to see them again Donna, at least these aren't causing you any worry, love the colour of 'Chucky'. Felt-tip pens were used.

Matthew - decided to draw a bird from the animal kingdom. He explained that when he goes for a walk by his nearby pond he often sees geese and likes these birds so he drew one from memory. Matthew likes to join the art sessions as they are quiet. Thank you for stopping by, it's good to see you and share your drawings Matthew. He used a biro to draw this picture.

Sarah - I uncovered these beautiful animals as they remind me of the Pokemon, Pikachu. The Golden Brushtail Possum is a unique rarity. These possums look like they have been dipped in gold, but actually, they have partially lost their colour pigment gene. This is called Leucism which gives the possum this beautiful creamy, blonde, orange, golden hue. Their eyes retain their normal colouration.
They are vulnerable in the wild, being a target in the eucalyptus trees when moonlight catches them, lacking the camouflage of their family members, who are a natural grey colour, so have been added to the vulnerable species list. Residents of Australia and Tasmania.
Watercolour paints, ink and acrylic markers were used.

Andy - A magnificent striped tiger, love the richness of the colours in this artwork and the great art-style effect of the stripes Andy has used to create this, great work. Soft pastels were used.
A fantastic array of animals from our Wild & Tame topic, all created using different media and in various styles. With there being so many species I'm certain we will be revisiting a similar theme in the future.
If you have enjoyed looking at all these artworks, we have an art group each week, they run every Wednesday at 7:30pm, UK time. Please come along if you are free, you'd be welcome, click on the link below and select All4Art

Love some of the work this week, Andy's tiger is one of my personal favourites
