Lines and Shapes Artwork: My Inspiration

During March, one of our weekly Wednesday night art sessions focused on lines and shapes. I decided for this session to take some inspiration from the timbered houses of the Alsace region of France which I visited for my summer holiday back in 2014 and also returned there in 2016 for a day trip while at one of the Christmas markets in nearby Germany. Below is my finished piece

Many of you may not know whereabouts in France this beautiful region is situated. It is located in the east of the country close to the border of Germany and Switzerland. This makes the region very easy to get to with Basel Airport situated nearby and easily accessible with EasyJet in particular running regular flights from various UK airports including Bristol, Edinburgh, London and Manchester. From the airport you can take the number 11 bus to Saint-Louis Train Station which has regular service to various towns in the region including Mulhouse, Colmar and Strasbourg

Each of these towns has their own unique things to do. Within Mulhouse there are a number of museums including the French National Railway museum and the National Car Museum.
One of the most beautiful and picturesque towns (and was where my picture was based on) is Colmar. Colmar is home to many picturesque timbered houses for you to enjoy as you walk about the town. It also has bus links to various other wine villages such as Riquewihr

The capital of this region of France is Strasbourg. Strasbourg is also home to many EU institutions and a large cathedral and is well worth a visit.

I hope you have enjoyed reading this article. If this has inspired you to visit I have shared below a document which lists hotels and other businesses that are accredited as being disability friendly
Fabulous blog Andy - Your artwork is lovely and I love those houses that you based your artwork on. Ive never seen anything like them before. They are a bit like our tudor old houses in the UK, but much prettier with all the colours
Some really beautiful images within this great blog Andy
