Ice Age and art made for a magnificent backdrop; a great deal of enthusiasm and thought went into these pictures. At the time, the temperatures were below zero, which added to things with some areas with snow lying around. With those thoughts in mind, excellent work and memories were sparked, giving way to some inspired, enlightened, amusing and beautiful art. Take a look at this week's gallery.

Donna - A fabulous scene depicting an Ice Age cave painting in keeping with the time, great scene with the large sabre-toothed cat and deer hunting, and a family group. Love the detail. The fire below, with the axe and the woolly mammoth in the distance, captures the essence of survival and the chill of the Ice Age. Felt-tip pens were used.

Phil - A great fun piece of digital artwork made by Phil using the app Google Gemini. He spent a while choosing photos and made himself laugh, and we joined in with him as he added the Ice Age theme to himself and the people around him during our art session. Fun during art!

Vicky - An awesome collection of icy and snow-filled characters showing some activities. A lot of inspiration! My favourite was Scrat, the fictional squirrel from Ice Age, closely followed by the Ptarmigan. Vicky always shares bird facts and species with us. This one blends in with the snow, changing to white in winter, and lives in the Highlands. Ink sketches.

Sarah - 'Impression of the Ice Age'... Looming glaciers, a powerful icy waterfall with a plunge pool, and a fast-flowing river carving its way through the ice and rock. The skeleton of a woolly rhino lies, fallen on the bank of the river, not far from the entrance of a large cave. The harsh and formidable scene of the frozen era. This is the scene that appears in my mind when the Ice Age is mentioned. Sketched using graphite and coloured using watercolour pencils.

Noor - Fantastic Ice Age artwork. Centrally, Noor decided to draw an impressive Woolly Mammoth; the trunk and tusks look great, and I really think the added detail with the mop of hair on their head adds to this picture. The Ice Age cave painting is a great touch too. Ink pens and colouring pencils were used.

Barbara - A superb painting, love the detail and the immense presence of the antlers of this beast! An impressive Ice Age skeleton of an Irish Elk. Barbara explained that she had seen this in a museum she had visited in Ireland. This huge, majestic animal had been found, preserved in Peat Bogs in Ireland. She also commented that the Irish Elk stands at around 9feet tall, similar to a deer, but larger. They have extremely large, powerful antlers which are about 12feet wide, similar to a moose/reindeer, sketched in graphite and painted in watercolour.

Andy - Decided to research animals that live in Icy/Arctic conditions, and here is a well-adapted penguin species, living in the frozen glacial conditions. Great use of blue tones with some green and white to give an icy feel to this picture and an impression of the depth below the surface of the iceberg in the ocean. Soft pastels were used.
A fantastic array of artwork this week from our creatives, taking us on different journeys. Hoping you enjoyed the adventure, leave a comment if you have any favourites.
There are some more exciting topics coming up. We have just had our first teaching-led session, by Portrait artist Barbara Hulme, with step-by-step instructions and individual advice; a Part 1 recording will be available for that soon.
Still to come are: Scotland in Colour - Burns' Night (21 Jan) and
Renew and Refresh*MH (28 Jan), for this month.
Remember, you are always welcome to join our chilled art group sessions, which run on Wednesdays 7:30pm, UK time, see link below.

I love checking out the blog - looking at everyone's interpretations of each weeks theme. Superb artworks this week, particularly liking Donna's cave art and Sarah's Glacial scenery. Lovely work everyone :)
