Out of curiosity, did you become more mindful of your relationship with social media after looking at how it can encroach on our time and influence habit formation? Maybe you decided to embark on a soft or a hardcore approach to social media detox and feel the freedom away from an electronic device. The members of our art group certainly provided some fantastic, inspirational artworks. Take a good look at our gallery.

Andy's art, Social Media Detox *MH

Andy - a thought-provoking concept and mindfully drawn. This is fantastic. Especially with the apps being washed down the river and away, a welcome break from social media, a much-needed detox. Soft pastels and other media icons were used for this artwork.

Donna - Great ways to switch from social media feeds and unwind the mind, this is how Donna relaxes and winds down. We all had a discussion around word searches and then crosswords. Thanks for sharing how you detox from social media, Donna. It gave everyone else ideas, too. Graphite and coloured pencils were used.

She has a yellow body, face and hair. 3 chakra symbols aligned centrally on her trunk.
Barbara's art, Social Media Detox *MH

Barbara - Excellent, enlightened art of a woman meditating, surrounding herself in a protective starburst, that is deflecting electronics and social media. All to keep the balance of her 3 chakras shown, heart, solar plexus and sacral. Awesome composition and colours, beautifully drawn. Very powerful reminder to take more time for yourself and restore your inner peace by stepping away from electronics and the influence of others online. Watercolour painting.

Matthew's art, Social Media Detox *MH

Matthew - Shared a drawing of the wind chimes in his garden. He listens to these; they calm his mind greatly, away from the noise of the day. I can imagine how soothing these must sound. Black biro on lined paper.

Noor's art, Social Media Detox *MH

Parveen's art, Social Media Detox *MH

Parveen - An amazing piece of artwork demonstrating how the demands of social media can take over our headspace, leaving us frazzled and the need to step away to find time to switch off, relax and reset. There's only one of us, and we need to look after ourselves. Coloured markers and pencils were used.

Interestingly, after we spent time on our social media detox art session, a story broke and appeared on news channels, including the BBC, on 25 March 2026, saying that a Los Angeles jury handed down an unprecedented win for a young woman who sued Meta and YouTube over her childhood addiction to social media.

Jurors found that Meta intentionally built addictive social media platforms that harmed a 20-year-old's mental health. The woman, known as Kaley, was awarded $6m in damages, a result likely to have implications for hundreds of similar cases now winding their way through US courts. Meta and Google said they disagreed with the verdict and intended to appeal.

Social media has its place; however, downtime is equally important, switching off from screens and scrolling.

If you would like to join us for our next session, there will be a different topic. Please come along and join our chill art session, the link is given below, on Wednesday, 7:30pm.
