This week, summer returned to our art group, and some really beautiful pieces were created, one of the few opportunities that we will get as Autumn rushes in and the cooler temperatures reach us. It was truly uplifting to see the artwork created by our talented artists reminiscing about the days gone by, looking out the window and seeing or visiting butterflies in meadows, and also, gaining inspiration online from further afield. Please scroll through the gallery and revisit the days of summer with us once more...

Completed Butterfly & Botanical artwork by Andy and Donna

Andy - sketched and coloured a magnificent Monarch butterfly. He used oil pastels for the rich orange wing colours, the details are beautiful. A watercolour wash was used for the background vegetation.

Donna - created a butterfly meadow, a carpet of colourful flowers with butterflies flitting around them. Donna used felt-tip pens to colour in her artwork.

Completed Butterfly & Botanical artwork by Phil

Phil - colourful digital art using the Toon me app. A great compilation with a variety of flowers and butterflies in different settings, showing an interpretation of our topic this week, it's always great to see digital art being stretched. Love how Phil uses digital art to express himself with topics.

Top right; Large butterfly with yellow body, line and dot details in a flower meadow, mixed colours, blue, purple, yellow, pink; Bottom right; Large defined butterfly, yellow body, red/brown wings with yellow and white details, black legs and proboscis, feeding on hazy purple spiked flowers
Completed Butterfly & Botanical artwork by Noor and Barbara

Noor - Loves to draw butterflies and has used Sharpies for bright colour and great line and dot detail. Also, she drew a different flower, a Hibiscus, using some bright pinks, red, and yellow, take a look in the top right corner. It's great to see Noor drawing different flowers. This is an incredibly colourful one, a fabulous choice to try.

Barbara - a challenge this week, as she explained it wasn't her usual subject material, but it's beautiful! The outline of the butterfly using posca pens shows its delicate structure and the intricate wing details, together with the thistles it's feeding on, painted using watercolour. Definitely a reminder of the hazy days of summer, very dreamy.

Completed Butterfly & Botanical artwork by Sarah and Helen

Sarah - 'Butterflies and Botanicals' lost floating away between flowers and trees with the peaceful flight of butterfly wings, going between each flower drinking nectar. Created a little moment of peace with watercolours and mixed media. I tried something a little different using mixed media to create a 3d effect to this picture adding an extra dimension to the dreamy abstract nature of the watercolour flowers and butterflies in the background.

Helen - Decided to sketch a Blue Morpho butterfly; it's an exquisite shade of blue. She used pencils and some paint to add definition to get the colour she wanted. I believe the black frill with white dots offsets the vibrancy of the blue. What do you think?

This topic captured the essence of summer with many beautiful butterflies and flowers. Hope you are feeling warmer looking at the pictures and remembering the long days and being outside with the colours and the sun rays. A reminder that seasons change quickly, and to make every moment count. Art is great in this way as you can capture moments in time forever with an added personal effect. Enjoy looking through our gallery this week.

If you would like to join us in art, you'd be more than welcome. Group runs every Wednesday at 7:30pm, UK time.
