I recently travelled to Liverpool for UNISON's Disabled Members Conference. This was an enjoyable weekend visiting the city and in between debate at conference I managed to take in some of the sites and attractions on offer in the city.

I travelled down a few nights beforehand on the Wednesday and checked in at the Leonardo Hotel at the Albert Dock. I was immediately greeted when I entered my room with a view across the dock and the Three Graces. On the first night we enjoyed dinner at one of the local restaurants in the Albert Dock before returning to the hotel to relax after our journey. The hotel is extremely disabled friendly and offers facilities for those with a range of needs as shown on the access guide on the hotel website.

On the Thursday. I saw some of the sites of the city including the Beetles Statue, The Chinese Arch and the Cathedrals. There are many beautiful buildings within the city. We then enjoyed dinner on a boat called The Daffodill.

On Friday, our original plan was to go to Chester Zoo, although unfortunately signaling problems meant there was no trains to Chester running. Instead we went for a visit to Southport. This was an enjoyable visit seeing the town, despite most of the main attractions only being open from Easter to September.

Some of the main attractions within Southport are

There is a variety of accommodation in Southport. An accessible hotel the local tourist information recommended is the Waterfront

Back in Liverpool that night I enjoyed a walk along the riverside seeing the River of Light event that was on for the local school holiday

On Saturday, before conference began I enjoyed a trip on the Mersey Ferry. This took in beautiful views of the skyline of the city from the water. The ferry is fully disabled access with more details on the website.

The conference lasted all day on Sunday so no time for sightseeing in the city.

On Monday before heading for the train back to Glasgow I enjoyed a trip on the Wheel of Liverpool.

Hope this blog provides useful and insightful information on planning a trip to Liverpool. There is lots of useful information on the Liverpool Tourist Information website about other accessible attractions and things to do in the region.
