Mannheim

The German city of Maanheim is the country's 21st largest city and although one of the lesser known it is still worth a visit. The city is unique amongst German cities in that it has a grid layout city centre and streets are not named but instead each area is given a grid reference.
Although there are no flights direct to it, the main hub of Frankfurt is just 40 miles away and regular high speed trains run direct from the city to the airport. Mannheim is an important railway junction for travel across southwestern Germany as well as international connections to France and Switzerland.
The city is home to some must visit sights. I visited for a day in 2016 and one which I would thoroughly reccomend (and inspiration for spotlighting it following a previous travel club session) was the Lussenpark. This is a beautiful park home to many attractions including a Japanese Garden, Animal enclosures and a relaxing boat ride. Next to the park you will find the TV tower. This is currently closed with the weblink being invalad but hopefully one day it will re open to enjoy beautiful views over the city and the surrounding countryside.
The city is also home to a number of museums including the Technical Museum and various art galleries. These are all accessible.
