This week I did my first long distance travel by train. With the support of passenger assist it went really smoothly, What tips do you have when travelling, including booking hotels, restaurants etc....

Just back from a solo trip to Las Vegas to visit some friends. I travel a lot for my job and want to see my friends around the world and visit places on my bucket list before my neurodegenerative disease makes that impossible. These are the things I’ve found helpful over the years: I find always calling the hotel and airline after marking your booking and requesting assistance. Things often get lost on electronic forms etc. I always put an air tag in my suitcase and hidden in my wheelchair so I can be sure where it is (I’ve had people having to chase-down my wheelchair at various airports because it was going to the wrong place) although all long-haul aircraft have to have stowage space inside the cabin for a collapsable wheelchair so ask them at the gate and 9 times out of 10 it isn’t a problem. Finally, it’s OK to be firm! For example I always refuse to get off the plane until my wheelchair has been brought to the aircraft door so they can’t fob you off with one of the rubbish (and pain-inducing chairs that they have at airports). Hope that’s useful.
