Im Gavin, the Founder of WelcoMe. The worlds first disability awareness training tool to connect your intention to visit a venue with the training they receive on how to best meet your needs. Traditional training is delivered but then we keep our fingers crossed that staff will remember what they were taught about Autism, Heading Impairement, MS, Cerebral Palsy, Visual Impairment, Tourette’s, Aphasia, Ataxia, Fibromyalgia etc. Its a lot to expect folks to remember and many dont and either struggle through or in some cases discriminate.
WelcoMe was introduced as a way for folks to tak to venues before they arrive, giving them the ability to not only let staff know they were coming but also what they might wish to achieve when they arrive. This triggers awareness training ie a video or some top tips when you plan your visit. This might be a reminder not to talk to guide dogs, awareness of sensitivity to sound or a the ability to bring an item you are interested in to the reception area. There are lots of ways to use the service but ultimately it can just be, I want you to know Im in the building.
WelcoMe was launched in 2019 and is now avaibale across the UK in over 200 venues. Currys have just launched a trial across the West Midlands and London across 40 stores.
What they need is for folks to test it out.
Our intention with |WelcoMe is to prove to major retail that disabled people appreciate face to face empathetic and knowledgable interactions and also that if they get them they are more likely to shop again and tell their friends about the service they have received.
Currys have set us the task of getting 50 visits before the end of August with an 80% + customer satisfaction rate. We think this is doable but we need your help.
Do you live in London ot the West Midlands. Would you like to help us prove that the Purple Pound exists and is worth them investing in?
