Disabled and accessible toilets and bedrooms are fitted with a method to alert someone in case of an emergency.

People often think this is because of a fall, but that’s not always the case. Someone may need assistance whilst sitting or standing too.

A number of hospitality venues are replacing the pull cord with an emergency button. The button is often in two places – one high and one low. However, is this an upgrade on the cord or is it falling in to the trap of design over accessibility.
